Restoring
CHARACTER
in
INDIVIDUALS
based on
HONORABLE VALUES
is
ESSENTIAL,
not only
for the benefit of
INDIVIDUALS
themselves,
but also
on behalf of both
today and tomorrow's
ORGANIZATIONS and INSTITUTIONS
as well as
SOCIETY AT LARGE!

The declining values - - as represented by much of the popular culture over the past sixty years - - have had an unfortunate dramatic negative impact on the individual and society at large, and consequently on the values, conduct, behavior, performance, and the general overall CHARACTER in Individuals, and on the very organizations and institutions in which they are employed or otherwise serve. The following provides a frame of reference of that declining effect:

  • THE FIRST LEVEL

    Characterized by a marked decline in the level of common courtesy; good manners, respectable language, and appropriate attire for the occasion; also, a decline in behavior in the home, schools and workplace, and of social behavior in general. All of this reflects the absence of PERSONAL CHARACTER TRAITS based on TIME-HONORED VALUES that include, among other things, respect for parents and others in positions of authority.

  • THE SECOND LEVEL

    Characterized by the marked growing lack of understanding, interest, and priority among more-and-more people, including adults, as to the true purpose and significance of the most fundamental and important institution of society - - Marriage and the Family Unit.

    This carefree, irresponsible attitude, not only among young people, but also among some adults who are married - - like so many other examples of apathetic behavior and/or lack of discipline and true purpose and meaning in life - - came about as the result of the growing trend among many people worldwide to assume for THEMSELVES (i.e., for the Individual) the ultimate authority on what is considered right and wrong as regards human conduct and behavior. In so doing, they, in effect, subscribed to the popular fallacy that one's conscience (their own) is the highest authority on all matters, WITH LITTLE OR NO REGARD AS TO HOW THAT CONSCIENCE WAS FORMED.

The erroneous notion in this SECOND LEVEL has led to a marked increase, acceptance, and in some cases, legalization over time of societal aberrations concerning many aspects in life - - BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY - - aberrations regarding the authentic nature and purpose of "Marriage and the Family Unit" all of which serve to further weaken the fabric of Society and the true value and purpose of life itself!

  • THE THIRD LEVEL

    Characterized by the ever-growing trend of misconduct and misbehavior among business executives and managers, AND leaders and representatives in government, and in other institutions, both secular and religious - - misconduct and misbehavior even rising, at times, to the level of criminal activity.

  • THE FOURTH LEVEL

    Characterized by disorderly and sometimes violent and costly public demonstrations irresponsibly permitted - - and even protected - - by some of the Nation's very laws often vaguely and politically crafted by legislators and interpreted by misguided and politically biased judges as to what the true meaning of freedom of speech and expression entails and how it can be effectively observed, without infringing upon the rights and lives of responsible, rational people
    .


  • THE FIFTH LEVEL

    Characterized by individuals and/or groups involved in radicalization, extremism, violence, and terrorism, etc.

None of the above is meant to imply that people in one level necessarily move on to the next group, but it does represent what has been, for many decades, a growing trend in society at large.

In order to help reverse the cultural decline as represented by the above five examples, it is essential to begin the process of RESTORING HONORABLE CHARACTER AND VALUES in the individual members of society, a monumental effort for the good of the individual, of society at large, and its organizations and institutions, and for the general wellbeing and security of all people.

There will always be exceptions simply because some people, particularly those in the FIFTH LEVEL above, will NOT conduct their lives in a manner that is appropriate and in accordance with Honorable Character and Values. But even those people should be exposed to CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT that may help to put them on the right path. Of course, appropriate laws and the compliance with, and application of, those laws by judges, together with a confinement system that works without fail must be instituted!

Conclusion

The ever-growing lack of CHARACTER and HONORABLE VALUES in Individuals negatively impacts the conduct and behavior of people in all aspects of life worldwide. Many dismiss this as simply a "cultural issue" suggesting to some that it is of "little importance". However, its downward trend and impact, in fact, affects the quality of leadership, integrity, and general work ethic of those employed in today's organizations and institutions, together with the safety of the individual at large.

Moreover, the increase in unacceptable and even violent behavior throughout society, is a reflection of society's and even a nation's ever-growing INCAPACITY and UNWILLINGNESS to deal with the problem effectively, before it becomes even more out of control and, and thus, extremely more difficult and costly, if not impossible, to reverse.

Today’s leaders, executives, managers, others in positions of influence, and people in general should be concerned with the nature and extent of the impact of the popular culture on society at large - - and for Leaders in particular, how that culture has actually diminished their capacity to be as highly successful as possible in their challenge to lead and manage today’s organizations and institutions.

There is a grand challenge and opportunity to be sought here!

It is a challenge and opportunity that, not only will serve to improve the success of the leaders, executives, and managers, themselves, together with their employees and other stakeholders, but also, serve to contribute to the success of the very organizations and institutions they lead and manage!

IN THE LONGER TERM, and consistent with GCC's Long-Term Vision, those leaders, executives, and managers in institutions and organizations around the world who agree to adopt GCC's Strategies would in fact be contributing towards the improvement of society at large in the following way:
